Marcin Jakubowski: Open-sourced blueprints for civilization

Open sourcing is the future. This is going to be a project I get involved in some day soon.

Why should reliance be a barrier to progress? Why rely on the magical wizard at apple to fix your computer when you could open source a version that's constantly being revised and improved in ways you could easily implement yourself? One day there won't be companies or money, just people and the interchange of ideas and time/labour.

Can you imagine a community where you grow your own food, generate your own power, build your own bricks, etc. etc. etc.? Obviously it doesn't scale as our planet is too over-populated, but I'd like to see it start happening. And who knows, maybe the next step is to colonise a new one?

  1. Matt, you have fallen head over heels in love with Open Source Hardware! Now lets convert some more geeks and get a nice little hacker/maker/doer army on these problems. :)

  2. I think it's time for the maker generation.
